What Are Soil amendments?
Soil Amendments are used on your lawn in a granular form to improve poor soil health and condition, or to rebuild soil which has been damaged by improper management and is compacted. Soil Amendments can make poor soils (such as clays) more usable and can be used to maintain soils in peak conditions.
The most common use for myhomeTURF’s Soil Amendments is to improve your overall lawn soil structure. Soils tend to become compacted over time, due to high wear and tear or weather, which then impedes root growth and decreases the ability of your lawn to absorb nutrients and water.
myhomeTURF’s Soil Amendments can add more loft and texture to keep the soil loose.
Unsure If you need a soil amendment?
Your soil is pivotal for the successful growth of your lawn so often a Soil Amendment will aid in this process. Soils are a complex form as they consist of organic matter, minerals, oxygen, water and living organisms all at different levels.
To understand your soil better dig it up and feel and look at the colour, also note its texture and whether it is too compacted or moves freely through your fingers. It is also advised to do a Soil pH test to ascertain the level of your soil’s nutrients. For more information read our guide to understanding Soil Amendments.
Good soil structure is soft and crumbly, with granular aggregates that hold together even in water.
